  • Absentee Ballots

Any registered voter in Iowa who wants an absentee ballot may receive one. There are no effective restrictions to limit who can vote by absentee ballot. No one must give a reason, doctor's excuse or any proof of need.

However, absentee voting ends the day before the election. With only a few very specific exceptions one cannot request or receive an absentee ballot on election day.

Absentee ballots can be sent to your mailing address or you may vote in person in the Auditor's Fort Madison or Keokuk offices.

In order to have an absentee ballot mailed to you, please download the following form (PDF): Absentee Ballot Request Form and mail to the Auditor’s Office.

    ü
Name of person requesting the ballot.
    ü
Signature of each person requesting a ballot.
    ü
The address at which the person is registered to vote.
    ü
Name and date of the election for which the ballot is requested.
    ü
Any other helpful information. For example, the address where the ballot should be mailed, date of birth, or last four digits of your social security number.
    ü
FOR PRIMARY ELECTION ONLY: Which party ballot to be mailed, i.e. Democratic or Republican ballot.
