Emergency services
Individuals
presenting in crisis, or others
reporting a crisis, will
have after hours
telephone access to Counseling
Associates
at 1-800-332-4224. Persons requiring
emergency hospitalization may
access those
services 24 hours per day at the Keokuk Area
Hospital on a voluntary
basis or as part of a
court commitment process.
Keokuk
Area Hospital is the primary facility
designated by Lee
County for court ordered
psychiatric commitments. However, if no space
exists at the Keokuk Area Hospital the court
may also place
persons at the Psychiatric Care
Unit of University of Iowa Hospitals, St. Luke’s
Hospital in
Cedar Rapids or one of the Mental
Health Institutes. Persons with state case status
without insurance
coverage should be committed
to the Mental Health Institutes, as the State
Payment program has no provision for payment
of private
hospitalization.
During business hours, telephone crisis
contact and assessment will be
available
through the local offices of the
outpatient
service
providers or Keokuk Area Hospital.
If hospitalization is needed, the decision to
admit, and the transportation to the hospital,
will be completed within four
hours of the initial
contact. If police or other community resources
have been involved in initial
response to the
crisis, their continued role will
be resolved within
two hours of the initial
contact. In most cases, this
will result in the police or
others being relieved
of further action or
participation within the first
two hours of crisis management.
The
County will continue to exert efforts to reach
out to and accommodate
those who may have
difficulty in accessing
services. These include
individuals in isolated
rural areas of the county,
and individuals with
physical disabilities.
