    Third Grade

     

    Food Chains

    Students will learn what a food chains is and their interrelationship to nature. Learning will be demonstrated by playing a forest food chain game and listening to the story Pass the Energy Please. 

     

    Animals in the Sky

    Students will listen to a Native American story about how the constellations came to be.  They will also have fun playing star-go a game of constellation bingo and learn constellation and mythological facts.

     

    Weather Wizards

    The students will learn about the different types of clouds, play a game related to clouds and weather, and make cloud books.

     

    Ducks

    Students will learn to identify ducks by looking at duck wings and watching a short duck video. Students will also play “Go Duck” and “ Duck Twister.”

     

    Insect Metamorphosis

    Students will learn about insects in general and the insect life cycle. They will play an insect metamorphosis rummy, where they need to collect each stage of the insect’s life cycle to win the game.

     

    Paper Recycling

    Students will learn about paper recycling.  They will see recycled paper and get a chance to make their own recycled paper.

     

    Recycled Products

    Students will learn about recycling in their area, they will think about possible items that can be made from recycled materials.  They will also get to see items that are currently on the market made from recycled materials.

     

     

    Wild in Iowa Trunk Review

    Seventeen Wild in Iowa trunks are available for use, free of charge, to any Lee County school, grades K-6.  For any trunk, you may arrange a classroom visit with the naturalists to give a brief overview of the trunk or do a specific activity.
