Adults should receive Td Boosters every 10 years. If a person incurs a would and the wound is deep and difficult to clean, the physician may order a Td if the person has not had one in the last 5 years or if the person has no record of immunization. As children the Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis series of vaccines builds immunity. Presently the recommendation for children is to have five DTP vaccinations by the age of 5 years. The next booster should be given between the ages of 11 & 12 years. This will be a Td booster only.
The Iowa Department of Public Health makes Td available to LCHD through the Vaccines for Children program . This means there is no charge, only a donation if able. This allows access to everyone. LCHD provides Td vaccination at our Childhood Immunization Clinics.

LCHD provides TB testing to the general public for $5.00 per test at the LCHD office on Monday's between 3:00 and 4:00 pm. Anyone receiving a TB test must return on Wednesday of the same week between 3:00 and 4:00 pm to have the test results read. A copy of the testing and results will be provided as necessary.
If a test is reactive, LCHD would refer the client to his/her personal physician for a chest x-ray. If a person is determined to have TB, LCHD works closely with the client's physician and the Iowa Department of Public Health to provide education, medication and follow-up with the client. LCHD also has the responsibility to identify, test and educate others, according to IDPH established protocol, that may be at risk.

LCHD provides free HIV education and testing for residents of Lee County. A trained RN obtains the specimen necessary to complete the test by swabbing the inside of the client's mouth. This test can be received by appointment only. Once the results are received, the RN contacts the client and makes an appointment to discuss the results with the client.

LCHD provides follow-up investigations for numerous diseases that must be reported to public health officials according to the law. Public health officials then have the responsibility to conduct an investigational interview and follow-up activities as indicated by established guidelines. These guidelines are established by the Iowa Department of Public Health in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control.
