  • Donnellson, Iowa is located on Highway 218 north of Keokuk and is best known as the home of the Lee County Speedway. Lee County Speedway  races on Saturday night.

    Lee County Fair the 2nd Wednesday in July through the following Sunday and has been located in Donnellson in 1878.

    Donnellson's Second Depot as it appeared one fine spring day in the early 1900.

    Other Facts

    • Donnellson was founded after a half of a century after the first white man settled in Keokuk.
    • W.A. Donnell was one of the first settlers after learning that railroad was to take a central route.
    • Post Office was established in 1871.
    • Stock Breeder's Association was established here in 1881.
    • Focal Point for commerce is the western part of Lee County.
    • Telephone poles appeared as early as 1898.
    • 1920's roads that were importance were given names, two such roads crossed here: Waubonsie Trail and Red Ball Route. Which later became Highways 2 and 218.
    • The census in 1910 counted 337, in 1990 counted 940.
