The Iowa Department of Human Services is a public expression of
Iowa’s desire for a stronger community. Working cooperatively with others,
the Department of Human Services meets the unique needs of individuals who
are experiencing personal, economic, social or health problems. The primary
responsibilities of the Department are to help and empower individuals and
families to become increasingly self-sufficient and productive and to strive
to improve the well-being of the people of the State of Iowa.
DHS is dedicated to serving its customers. Our primary customers
are the clients who receive services from us directly or through providers
with whom we work closely as partners. Ultimately, all our efforts are aimed
at ensuring that our clients receive appropriate service of high quality,
delivered in a timely manner in appropriate settings.
